If you don’t have an ASIO capable sound card then adjust the Playback buffering (seconds): on that same dialog to see how low you can get it before the sound breaks up.

You may also have to press the Advanced button at the bottom of that dialog and configure the drivers to lower the ASIO buffer latency. When you first look under Audio device type: (it probably says Microsoft Sound Mapper) see if there is an option that says ASIO in it.
Go into Options | Preferences and click on the Audio Device tab.

If your audio device came with a driver CD and you did not install it, now would be a good time to do so.
If you have a sound card that supports ASIO then you want to use the ASIO drivers for that card. I just don't know what to do.The delay between the time that you strike a note on a MIDI keyboard and the time you hear the sound is referred to as latency. To get the lowest latency you need audio drivers that support ASIO (Audio Streaming Input Output). It seems like I've followed all the steps my instructor gave me, the Pro Tools Fundamentals book gave me, and countless YouTube videos gave me.

Note, if M-Audio Keyboard is not in use, update the Peripherals dialog to prevent further warnings." Power-cycle M-Audio Keyboard and check it's connections. There's also a message that keeps appearing saying "Pro Tools is unable to communicate with M-Audio Keyboard. My only options re the 2 i puts from my Scarlett Solo, or Bus 1 through 16 (Mono). In the MIDI Studio Setup I've got the Keystation set as the input port and the output port as none since it gives me no other option. If I go under setup > MIDI Controllers, then under type I've selected M-Audio Keyboard, Recieve from M-Audio Keystation 49es, and send to Microsoft GS Wavetable Synth (yes I know I'm on PC I'm sure it would be easier on a Mac but I don't have money right now) is this the right configuration? I'm not 100% comfortable with the program yet to begin with, but this is stressing me out. I need to record using my M-Audio Keystation 49es for my course and Pro Tools is not being kind to me. r/MixClub /r/AudioEngineering /r/ListenToThis /r/Music /r/RadioReddit /r/LearnMusic /r/Reasoners /r/AudioPost /r/GameAudio /r/RateMyAudio /r/StudioPorn /r/SFXLibraries
